The caps are back baby!! They start their road to their second Stanley Cup tonight against the reigning Stanley Cup Champs the St. Louis Blues. GLORIA GLORIA!! Thank God they are retiring that song. Ovie’s road to another 50 goal season begins tonight, Top-line Tom out to prove he can put up 30, Holtby’s potentially last season as a Capital as well as Nicky’s contract year. This season could become an emotional one. And the Chirpin’ Boys are here to tell you all about it. LETS GET THIS RIDE GOIN!
In the first period the boys got off to a bit of a slow start. We’ll give them a bit of break on that considering they’re playing against the defending Stanley Cup Champions on their banner night (remember when the Caps curb stomped the Bruins 7-0 on our banner night?). Our PK continues to be abysmal as it was last year. Pietrangelo puts the Blues up 2-0 from Ovie’s office. Sloppy start but it the boys in white settle down. Well would you look at that, we’ve already done better than the Bruins did last year in the first period. Ovie continues to show why he is the greatest goal scorer of all-time with his first tuck of the season to cut the lead in half. Fake rip to walk around the d-man, quick release from far out to just absolutely torch Binnington. Gotta love to see he’s still got it at 34 years of age.
Caps start the second period slow again. Hopefully they get these slow period starts figured out. However, Holtby makes some BIG saves to keep the game at 2-1 here early in the second.
ORLOV BOMB!! People forget Orlov has a cannon. Might be some of that Russian gas?? Number 9 makes it 2-2 and the boys are looking good here in the second period with 9 straight scoring chances. As some might say, THE BOYS WERE BUZZIN’ heading into the 3rd.
The 3rd period saw a ton of chances by the boys in white but couldn’t manage to bury one. Onto overtime we go.
VRANAAAAA THE GOAL SCORER!!! This kid has been wheelin all night and finds the basket to grab a hard 2 points!! LETS FUCKIN GOOOO!
Ovie had about a million chances in this game and looked phenomenal. Vrana looked like he was the fastest player on the ice. Tom layin the body and beating guys to the puck. All 4 lines have looked great tonight. Leipsic was a nice surprise tonight. I really liked the speed and grit he brings to the team. And Orlov controlled the puck well tonight with a lot of speed. To top it off, Holtby really settled in after the first 10 minutes and has looked great. Solid game and effort from the Caps tonight. Great 2 points to start the season!
OVIE ON PACE FOR 82 GOALS AND CAPS ON PACE FOR 82-0 KEEP ER ROLLIN
