Edition four of the Chirpin’ DMV power rankings and we’ve got some serious shuffling going on this week. Some teams swept through their weekend, some went win-less, some faced off against each other which caused the power shift also. Lot of movement, so where does your team stand after a wild weekend of college hockey in the DMV?

#1 – Liberty (ACHA D2) 14-1-0-0

Previous Rank: 2

Rank Change: ▲ 1

Highest Rank: 1

The D2 Flames got booted from the #1 spot last week by their D1 brothers, but that didn’t last wrong. They were like damn Chirpin, put some RESPEK on our name!!!! So, we did, and they’re right back into the top spot. They traveled to Missouri this weekend for the Lindenwood Showcase, and while there, would sweep the weekend by defeating Lindenwood 3-1, Cincinnati 4-3, and finishing off the showcase with a thrilling 5-4 shootout win vs Umass-Amherst. They boys have lost once in 15 games, they’re buzzin, they’re flying, you name it, but they are HOT and it doesn’t look like anyone can slow em down

Weekend Results: FRI vs Lindenwood 3-1 W, SAT vs Cincy 4-3 W, SUN vs Umass-Amherst 5-4 W

#2 – Liberty (ACHA D1) 9-2-0-0

The D1 Flames would get their first taste of defeat this season as they traveled to Adrian for a top 5 showdown in the ACHA D1, and lose both by the scores of 3-7 and 0-1. Adrian snapped the longest Liberty winning streak to start a season since 2009 on Friday after a slow start, they Flames would bounce back in a big way on Saturday, out shooting the Bulldogs 29-26, but were unable to solve the Adrian goalie. The only goal of the game would be scored with just 1:38 remaining in regulation. Flames have another tough weekend where they host a damn good Stony Brook team. They’ll be looking for a sweep to get back on the train of national title contenders.

Weekend Results: FRI @ Adrian 3-7 L, SAT @ Adrian 0-1 L

Next up: 11/1 and 11/2 vs Stony Brook University (7-1-0-0)

#3 – Virginia Tech (ACHA D2) 9-2-0-2

Previous Rank: 4

Rank Change: ▲ 1

Highest Rank: 3

The Hokies would make a drip down to NC to take on Duke and Elon and come away with two huge wins and 4 points on the weekend. They’d take on Duke first, and after being down 0-1 in the second period, but they would net 1 each in the second and third to defeat Duke 2-1. A Day later they would roll into Elon like the bad boys they are and just dummy the Phoenix’ by a score of 8-3. Turkeys are cruisin’ and move up a spot thanks to another weekend sweep.

Weekend Results: FRI @ Duke 2-1 W, SAT @ Elon 8-3 W

Next up: 11/1 vs High Point (5-1-0-0)

#4 – George Washington (ACHA D2) 5-1-0-0

Previous Rank: 6

Highest Rank: 4

The George Washington Colonials, ladies and gentleman. We mentioned it before on the pod when I picked them as my team of the week a few episodes ago, but this is a team that won only 8 games last year in 21 go’s at er. 8!!!!! They’re 5-1 now after blowing out Navy D2 10-3 on Saturday behind a five goal third period effort. They’ve got two big road trips the next two weekends, and their next opponent brings us a Chripin’ DMV top 10 match-up as they head to take on #6 George Mason.

Weekend Results: SAT vs Navy D2 10-3 W

Next up: 11/1 @ #6 George Mason (7-3-0-1), 11/2 @ James Madison (0-7-0-0)

#5 – Stevenson (ACHA D2) 6-3-0-0

Previous Rank: 3

Rank Change: ▼ 2

Highest Rank: 2

Stevenson is checking in and sliding a bit after a tough weekend where they saw themselves drop both games. The first in our Chiprin’ DMV game to watch and top 10 battle when the at the time #3 Mustangs hosted #9 George Mason. Stevenson would find themselves down 6-1 after the first and go on to lose 2-9. They would hit the road Sunday to Philly for a match-up with Drexel, but drop that one 3-5 to go 0-2 on the weekend and drop two spots in the power rankings.

Weekend Results: SAT vs George Mason 2-9 L, SUN @ Drexel 3-5 L

Next up: 11/2 and 11/3 @ Vermont (4-5-2)

#6 – George Mason (ACHA D3) 7-3-0-1

Previous Rank: 9

Rank Change: ▲ 3

Highest Rank: 6

The Mason Patriots are flying up the power rankings after a huge 2-0 weekend. They kicked things off Friday night at home defeating Cal PA 9-4, a game where the #SmithShow with yet another hattrick as he leads the way with 3 goals in this one to give Mason the big win. A night later, they’d travel to #3 Stevenson to avenge a 6-1 loss at the beginning of the season, and they would roll Stevenson 9-2 behind a massive game from the #SmithShow, who would net 5 goals (holy shit save some for the rest of the country). Don’t look now but the Patriots have won six straight.

Weekend Results: FRI vs Cal PA 9-4 W, SAT @ #3 Stevenson 9-2 W

Next up: 11/1 vs #4 George Washington (5-1-0-0)

#7 – Salisbury (DVCHC National) 6-4-0-1

Previous Rank: 5

Rank Change: ▼ 2

Highest Rank: 4

The Gulls are starting to struggle a bit as they’ve now lost 2 straight, and 3 of their last 4. a once 5-1-0-1 team is in a bit of a slump, and didn’t do themselves any favors this past weekend as they lost to division rival Stockton 2-4. They’ve got a bye weekend coming up which should play in their favor, right before a heavy 5 game November including a tournament. Gulls, if ya wanna stay in the power rankings, ya gotta unhitch the trailer.

Weekend Results: SAT vs Stockton 2-4 L

#8 – Virginia (ACHA D2) 5-2-0-0

Previous Rank: 7

Rank Change: ▼ 1

Highest Rank: 7

Wahoo hockey wasn’t in action this weekend as they had a bye. A bye weekend won’t kill you in the power rankings, unless teams start to heat up and win a ton of games while you’re sitting on the couch. They’ve got another bye this weekend before they off to the Stephen Russell Tourney. Hopefully they don’t get hit with rink rust.

Weekend Results: BYE WEEKEND

#9 – Christopher Newport (ACHA D3) 7-4-0-0

Previous Rank: 8

Rank Change: ▼ 1

Highest Rank: 8

Same story for the Captains as it is for Virginia U, a bye weekend keeps them pretty stagnant in the rankings. A hot George Mason change is the only factory playing into their drop in the charts right now, but they have a huge weekend ahead as they host D3 Liberty. Two big wins could make up lost ground for the CNU.

Weekend Results: BYE WEEKEND

Next up: 11/1 and 11/2 vs Liberty D3 (5-3-0-0)

#10 – Navy D1 (ACHA D1) 6-4-0-2

Previous Rank: UR

Rank Change: ▲ 1

Highest Rank: 10

Welcome back to the top 10, D1 Midshipmen! We talked in the college preview blog about the boys needing a massive bounce back weekend after going win-less the weekend prior, and they did just that. Navy hit the road on Friday and took down Lehigh by a score of 6-3 with goals by Golembrosky, Schoenman, Kelly, Mullen, and Hyden. A Night later, they would travel to William Paterson and gut out a hard fought 3-2 win with a Joe Kelly game winner and Charles Doherty turning away 34 of 36 pucks on net.

Weekend Results: FRI @ Lehigh 6-3 W, SAT @ William Paterson 3-2 W

Next up: 11/1 vs William Paterson (4-3-0-1), 11/2 vs Towson (2-9-0-1)
