SEVEN teams from the DMV will be heading south this weekend to partake in the 2019 ACCHL Stephen Russell Memorial Tournament. Navy D2 (2-7-0-0) will be taking on UNC, Duke, and UNC Charlotte, Richmond (2-4-0-0) has a tough weekend as they take on WVU, #3 VT, and #8 UVA, #3 George Washinton (7-1-0-0) faces off against UNC Wilmington, UNC Charlotte, and UNC, Georgetown (3-3-0-0) takes on Duke, NC State, and Wake Forest, JMU (0-8-0-0) seeks their first win as they take on Wake Forest, UNC Wilmington, and Duke, #8 Virginia (5-2-0-0) is finally back in action vs NC State, Elon, and Richmond, and lastly, #3 VT (10-2-0-2) plays Elon, Richmond, and NC State.
NCAA Hockey is Back!
Our two DMV NCAA D3 teams are kicking off their seasons as the Stevenson Men’s (1-0-0-0) will travel to take on an 0-2-0-0 Chatham team, coming off of a 3-1 season opening victory against King’s (PA). The Stevenson Women’s (1-0-1-0) have a two game road weekend as they travel to Neumann 1-1-0-0 on Saturday, then head to take on the 0-1-1-0 Manhattanville Valiants. The Mustangs started their season with a 0-0 tie vs UMass Boston, and a 3-0 win over New England College.
Gulls Fly North
#10 Salisbury (National) (6-4-0-1) travel to New Jersey this weekend for a revenge game vs the Stockton Ospreys. Salisbury had a bye last weekend, but lost their only contest the weekend prior to this same Stockton team. They’ll get a shot at revenge, and a chance to get off a two game slide.
Catholic Honors IceDogs
#7 Catholic (5-1-0-0) is coming off a weekend sweep, and are back in action as they host York for a very special game on Saturday at the Gardens Ice House. They’ll be doing their annual Washington Ice Dogs charity game to help the club grow, and all donations are welcome!
Mason Looks to Streak Again
#6 George Mason (7-3-0-2) was on a six game win streak until facing GW in a top 10 match-up last weekend, where they would drop the game in a shootout. They’ll have a chance this weekend on the road to get back to their winning ways against the D1 Duquesne team that is at a struggling 4-8-0-0 this year.
Run It Back, Radford
We’ve got a DMV showdown this weekend in southern VA as Radford (4-3-0-0) hosts Old Dominion (2-4-0-0). To be honest, neither of these two teams put much out in terms of content or updates, so as much as I can tell ya, they play two games this weekend.
DMV Ladies Head to Erie
There are some teams that’ll be THROWN DOWNNN in Erie, PA this weekend, and two of em will be representing the DMV. Liberty Ladies D2 (6-0-0-0) will take on Mercyhurst, SUNY Oswego, and Buffalo as they look to stay undefeated on the year. The Navy Ladies (6-2-1-0) will also be up in Erie as they’ll take on Buffalo, Mercyhurst, and RIT.
Top Dogs at Home
Yes, the top dogs… .of Flames as I should say, #1 and #2 have a jam packed weekend as #2 Liberty Men’s D1 (11-2-0-0) look to keep climbing the rankings as they host a tough Ohio University that’s 6-2-0-2 on the year, while the #1 D2 Flames (14-1-0-0) host a buzzin 11-2-1-0 Sault College team. Both Flames teams are in for a tough weekend, but four wins would keep the top dogs on top.
Stangs Want Dubs
#5 Stevenson (7-4-0-0) looks to climb back up the power rankings with a two game home stand in Reisterstown this weekend as they welcome in two conference foes. They’ll welcome on a 7-4-0-0 Rider team on Saturday, then turn around and play an undefeated Rowan team at 7-0-0-0 the next day. It’s a huge weekend for the horses as they look for 2 dubs.
Turtle Time
Both Terps teams are in action this weekend as the boys are at home and the ladies are hitting the road. The Lady Terps (7-2-0-0) are on the road for just one game this weekend as they travel to take on Villanova team that’s only played four times this season. The D2 Mens Terps (3-8-0-2) are looking to turn things around as they host a hot Rider team that comes in at 7-4-0-0
Tigers x2
Just like the Terps, both Towson teams are in action as they both look to pick up big W’s and get their season on the right track. The Lady Tigers (1-4-0-0) are on the road all weekend as they travel to Rowan tomorrow, then off to West Chester on Sunday. Towson Men’s (2-11-0-1) are also on the road as they travel to West Chester TONIGHT, then end their weekend tomorrow at Lehigh.
Midshipmen off to Delaware
The D1 Midshipmen (7-5-0-2) have one game this weekend as they travel to take on a 8-6-0-0 Delaware team for a huge match-up. The two teams played twice last season and split the series, Navy dropping one 8-4, and winning the other 4-3.
Captains are off to Cal U
The #9 Christopher Newport (8-5-0-0) squad is off to Cal U of PA. This is a lowkey huge weekend for them, as they only sit 3 games above .500. Two wins can really separate themselves in the power rankings and on their schedule. But a split or two losses could see them in tough territory.
Showcase Bound for Lady Liberty
The D1 Lady Liberty (15-1-0-1) gals are off to the Robert Morris U Showcase all weekend where they look to stay hot on the season. They’ll take on Lindenwood, URI, and Robert Morris as they stay on track to another National Championship.
Women’s DVCHC Action
Three other Ladies DVCHC teams are in action this weekend as George Washington (0-5-0-0) looks to pick up their first win as they host West Virginia. George Mason (2-1-0-0) is outta town all weekend as they travel to St Joes and Lafayette. Lastly, Virginia (2-1-0-0) has a two game homestand vs IUP.
