Power rankings #6 and we broke it on Wednesday’s pod this week. We have some new faces in the rankings, some fell out, and some are still steady as she goes, so lets ride.

#1 – Liberty (ACHA D1) 13-2-0-0

The D1 Flames had yet another sweep this weekend as they welcomed in the University of Ohio. Game two of the weekend was ELECTRIC as the Flames would find themselves down 0-3 before scoring four straight in the third period, three in under a minute, before pulling out a massive 5-4 shootout win. Friday nights game was an 8-2 blowout win for “Midnight Madness”. Check the highlights for Saturdays game below.

The D2 Flames struggled this weekend, having arguably their worst series of the season as they hosted Sault College. They would tie on Friday night 5-5, then drop Saturdays contest 2-4. This ended a five game winning streak for the Flames as they prepare to get back on track as they travel to New Jersey this weekend to take on Rider.

#3 – George Washington (ACHA D2) 9-2-0-0

The Colonials stay HOT as they traveled down to the Stephen Russell Memorial Tournament this past weekend, going 2-1 in their three games of the weekend. They would defeat UNC Charlotte and UNC, but dropped a one goal game to UNC Wilmington. They have a one game weekend coming up, which is good, as they could probably use a tad bit of rest after a hot and heavy start to the season.

#4 – Virginia Tech (ACHA D2) 11-3-1-2

The Hokies, like much of the DMV, were also down at the Stephen Russel Memorial tourney this past weekend. They got a dash in every category of the standings going 1-1-1. Their only loss was to the eventual champion NC State Wolfpack, but blew Richmond out of the water, and tied Elon. At 11 wins, they stay in the top five, and prepare for a Friday night showdown vs South Carolina.

The Patriots continue to heat up after their somewhat sluggish start to the season. They took a short handed team, three defenseman and ten forwards, to Pa this weekend against D1 Duquesne and guess what? They sweeped those fools. Mason has now won eight of their last night and are ranked #1 in the ACHA D3 Atlantic Conference.

The Cards move up a rank despite suffering an overtime loss this past weekend to York but hey, if everyone in front of you is going to have a rough weekend, then you’re gonna move up. Plus, you can’t hate on five wins in 7 games. They’ve got a massive game vs Neumann tomorrow night, as both teams sit tied for first in the DVCHC American Division.

Another DMV team, another Stephen Russell tourney appearance. Wahoo hockey has a solid weekend winning two of three, dropping their only game to eventual champ NC State. They put up 20 goals in three game, and out scored opponents 15-1 in their two wins of the tournament. They’ve got a bye weekend coming up, but after a 7-3 start, the Ice Cavs are starting to roll.

Welcome to the power rankings, NCAA Stangs! Stevenson, while just getting their season underway, is off to a hot 2-0 start, scoring 9 goals in those two games, having let up the first goal in both games, but coming back to win both to stay undefeated. They have a huge weekend coming up as they host MAC rival Wilkes, and travel to take on a good Morrisville team.

The Captains are hanging around in the top ten as they split another weekend, this time with Cal University of PA. They got throttled on Friday night, but had a huge bounce back win the following day to save the split. They’re looking forward to this weekend as they travel to a win-less NOVA team, so expect a sweep from CNU.

Since Stevenson 6-1 start to the season, they have since dropped five of the last six, including two straight, causing them to drop significantly in the power rankings. They have two big games this weekend as they get a rematch with Penn State, who they beat 6-5 back in October, and also take on a solid Delaware Ducks team.
