Freaky Friday: High School Hockey

It’s FRIYAAAAAY, freaky friyay if you’re into the whole Friday the 13th nonsense. Last Friday slate of games (for the most part) before the new year and teams really start buckling down for playoff pushes so let’s get into it DMV. Reminder that records are based on league records, not overall team records. Also remember the rules for being featured on here… no dope social media post, no love… help us help you.

MAPHL

Georgetown Prep (3-0-0) @ St Johns (3-0-0)

It’s a battle of the top two teams in the MAPHL as both Prep and the Cadets come in undefeated looking to take the top spot in the league and essentially get that much closer to clinching a playoff spot already. St Johns has played 11 games already while Prep is only around 4/5. Will that give the Cadets the advantage tonight? Find out at Rockville at 5:35 PM

Mt St Joe’s (2-2-1) @ Bullis (1-3-0)

Last week, Bullis took down Spalding 6-5 for their first MAPHL league win since January of 2017. MSJ got off to that 2-0 start beating both DeMatha and Gonzaga, but have since only tied St Albans and got punked by Georgetown Prep. Will the Gaels get back on track, or will Bullis continue to build off that huge win? Find out in Rockville at 5:10 PM

St. Albans (0-2-1) @ Bishop O’Connell (2-1-0)

Only two teams have to travel to the Star Ship for a Friday night league game this year, and St Albans is one. If you aren’t aware, a Friday night O’Connell home game is arguably the toughest game in the DMV for a road team. Tonight? O’Connell students are getting free doughnuts, a free skate, and a bunch of kids dressed as santa and that place will be ROCKINNNN. A win for St Albans won’t come easy, but will be huge for them against a tough Knights team. Puck drops at 6:40 PM

CSHL

Bishop Ireton (3-2-1) @ Lake Braddock (5-1-0)

Ireton will have a chance to make a statement tonight as they head to Prince William to take on the South Division leader Lake Braddock. The Bruins undefeated start at 5-0 was snapped last week vs West Potomac, so they’ll have a little extra juice in their game to get back to winning ways with only 4 league games left as they stay on the hunt for the #1 overall seed behind the 10 goals of Charlie Wojcik.

GM/Edison/Hayfield (0-4-0) @ Forest Park/Hylton (2-2-1)

They’ll admit, it’s been a rough go for the win-less Hayfield hockey squad, but that sure as hell won’t keep em down. They’ll go up against a Forest Park team who comes in on a 2 game losing streak. This may be the perfect time for Hayfield to strike and pick up a win.

WT Woodson (1-2-0) @ TC Williams (5-0-0)

The lone undefeated team left in the CSHL…. Titan hockey! They’ll look to stay perfect as they welcome in a struggling WT Woodson team who doesn’t have a player with over 3 goals. If TC jumps on em early and often, this one will be over quick and the Titans will stay perfecto.

MSHL

Glenelg (4-0-1) @ Urbana (5-1-0)

This Sh*t right… inject it into my veins. The #1 squad in the Monocacy Valley vs the #1 squad in the Howard conference. Potential playoff preview? I love these out of conference games that are resume builders for state seedings at the end of the year. This one will be a good one as Glenelg heads to Frederick to take on the Corey Heflin (12-10–22) led Urbana Hawks for what should be an awesome game.

Northern (4-0-1) @ Huntingtown (5-0-0)

Best rivalry in the state don’t @ me. Am I biased? Oh hell yea. I played in this game for 4 years and it was INSANE. The clubhouse gets jumpin, the Canes and Patriots hate each other… give me HTOWN by a MILLION. Shout out my old squad. Don’t believe me? See for yourself here below.

NVSHL

Independence/Rock Ridge (1-2-1) @ Langley (2-1-1)

Free t-shirt night for the defending champs? You bet your ass you better get there if you want in on that action. Langley is only a point ahead of McLean for the Adams division lead, so a win tonight will make them a littttttle more comfortable.

Yorktown (2-0-1) @ Battlefield (4-0-1)

You know what really gets the blood boiling? A good playoff rematch. Battlefield is leading the way in the Patrick Division with an impressive 4-0-1 record, but Yorktown is also unbeaten at 2-0-1, and is coming off a very, very damn good game against an insanely talented O’Connell team. This one’s a coin flip, so go find out for yourself at Haymarket North at 8 PM

Riverside (1-0-1) @ Broad Run (4-0-0)

Five teams in the NVSHL are unbeaten, and one is the Smythe division leader Broad Run, who comes into the game with a +25 goal differential. Huge thanks for that goes to Logan Greenfeld, who’s at a 1.64 GAA and a perfect record. Riverside is gonna have to come up with something new that Broad Run hasn’t seen to try and get a puck past him
