It’s the first big Friday night of the new year with a combined 38 games across the four leagues in the DMV… that’s a ton of game that you probably didn’t know about. Per usual, we pull up social media and put every game in to one place for you (right here on Chipin DMV baby) so you can have a one stop shop for all things high school puck in the DMV, so let’s rideeeee into this big Friday night that features some huge match-up’s with conference and division first place spots on the line. Remember.. no social media? no love babyyyy, sorry bout it. ALSO, team record wise in the Friday night previews is different than the power ranking records. These blogs will just have league records, unlike PR blogs that have overall season records.

MAPHL

St. Albans (0-1-3) @ #2 Georgetown Prep (4-1-0)

Ft. DuPont Ice Arena, 4:00 PM puck drop

The #2 Hoyas are coming off a Wednesday win over #6 DeMatha with a convincing 6-3 score. The Hoyas are starting 2020 with a four game gauntlet (DM, St Albans, Gonzaga, Landon) so a win tonight will get them off to a hot start on that, seeing as that they end the season with Bullis and Spalding as their final two. St Albans on the other hand is dropping puck for the first time in 2020 and still looking for that first win.. not that they’ve been losing, but they sit at three ties. They’ll need 2 points if they wanna separate themselves from the bottom of the league.

#5 Landon (2-0-0) @ #3 Gonzaga (2-1-0)

Ft DuPont Ice Arena, 8:00 PM puck drop

This is a massiveeeee one, and seems like DuPont is the rink to be tonight. This game marks the start of a five game league slate for Gonzaga, and a six game league slate for Landon all in the month of January alone. When you’ve got a brutal grind like that ahead, there’s no better way to kick that off with a huge win over a top team in the league to give your squad some serious momentum. This one will have some serious implications on the power rankings too.

Bullis (1-4-0) @ Calvert Hall (0-5-0)

Mt Pleasant Ice Arena, 7:00 PM puck drop

This is an interesting game. As we know, there’s 11 teams in the MAPHL, but only eight make the playoffs. Teams 8-11 sit only three points apart in the standings, which is shaping up to be a four team battle for that last playoff spot. Bullis at 2 points, and Calvert Hall at 0, both have five games played. Spalding at six games played has 3 pts, and Albans at four GP have 3 points. If Bullis wins this game and Albans loses tonight? Bullis is in a playoff spot.. think that’s some solid motivation? I’d say. We mentioned on the pod that the Cards had a great holiday tourney, and come back hungry for a win to stay in the hunt.

CSHL

Colgan (4-2-0) @ Forest Park/Hylton (3-2-1)

Prince William, 9:40 PM puck drop

A battle between the third and fourth place squads in the south conference with only one point separating the two. While Lake Braddock seems to have the conference on lock, there’s a three team block including these two and W. Springfield fighting for that second seed. Forest Park has a tall task ahead trying to shut down Jackson Ryan (9-5–14), but if they can do that, they can find themselves with a dub and two big points.

Bishop Ireton (3-3-1) @ West Potomac (4-2-0)

Mt Vernon Rec Center, 9:00 PM puck drop

Another game with two teams that are only separated by a single point, this time in the north conference. West Po had their three game winning streaked snapped by Washington-Liberty right before winter break, so they’ll be looking at this contest to get back on another streak as they hit the home stretch with only four games left.

South County (0-4-1) @ Lake Braddock/Park View (6-1-0)

The St. James, 8:40 PM puck drop

Top squad in the south vs the worst team in the south. There’s not too much to break down in this game so we’ll play a game. over/under 2.5 goals for Charlie Wojcik on the Bruins tonight? I’ll take the over.. hit that venmo if you think otherwise.

Washington-Liberty (6-1-0) @ Centreville/Fairfax (0-6-0)

The St James, 8:20 PM puck drop

Much like the game above, it’s the top squad in the north vs the worst team in the north.. so what should we do? Another game! (better way of saying gambling on high school hockey, but since we aren’t actually gambling, we’ll call it a game) The Generals are scoring at a 6.14 goals per game clip, while Centreville/Fairfax is letting in 10.5 goals a game. Let’s set the game total O/U at 11.5

GM/Edison/Hayfield (0-6-0) @ WT Woodson (1-3-0)

Mount Vernon Rec Center, 5:15 PM puck drop

Both of these teams are looking to start the new year with a win after a tough start to the season. Look for both teams to come out firing to try and save their season a bit and get a little jump on their bench to finish off the season.

MSHL

#7 Marriott’s Ridge (5-0-1) @ Glenelg (6-0-1)

Laurel – Patrick, 4:00 PM puck drop

Arguably the game of the week in the MSHL with first place in the Howard conference on the line. Glenelg sits in first, two point ahead of Marriott’s ridge, but with one more game played than the Stang Gang. Last game was a 2-2 thanks to a last second tie by Glenelgs Tommy Tracy. NO DAMN CLUE how this one will play out, but it’ll be a good one. Winner of this probably wins the Howard regular season championship.

#9 Winston Churchill (9-0-0) @ Wootton (7-2-0)

Cabin John – NHL Rink, 10:00 PM puck drop

Holy hell this game is late… like.. 10 PM?? I’d be snoozin.. but hey, keeps the kids from going out and doing something fun.. I mean bad, on a Friday night. Wootton has ripped off four straight to find themselves in second and knockin on Churchills door. Four points seperate these two, but they’ve both played nine games. A Wootton win gets them within two points and makes thing realllllllll interesting.

Northern (5-1-1) @ Central MD (3-4-0)

Bowie, 7:15 PM puck drop

Game two of the year between these two as Northern skated away with a 6-4 win back in November. Central MD actually had a 3-2 lead going into the third last go around until Wesley Crofoot went sicko mode taking shawty for a ride twice in the third.

Leonardtown (1-6-0) @ Huntingtown (6-0-0)

Capital Clubhouse, 6:45 PM puck drop

A struggling Leonardtown team vs the Undefeated Huntingtown squad in a Southern conference rivalry, should be a good one!… who am I kidding, i’m biased as hell towards my alumni, give me HTOWN by 100

Richard Montgomery (2-6-1) @ Walter Johnson (4-4-1)

Rockville – Rink 3, 8:40 PM puck drop

You see the post below,, it’s crunch time.. and apparently you should bring your mom to the game. Not too sure why, but hell ,if she’s free and you need a ride, you might as well. Two big time scorers are going toe-to-toe as the Rockets Trevor Gutman (16-8–24) and WJ’s Quinn Mulligan (6-14–20) look to trade blows and light the lamp all night to propel their team to a big dub.

Oakdale (0-6-0) @ Urbana (6-1-1)

Skate Frederick – Rink 2, 7:45 PM puck drop

Urbana sits second in the Monocacy Valley, five points behind Washington County.. but they’ve got three games in hand. If they can rip off three straight and collect all six points, boom, first place for Urbana and a potential regular season conference championship.

NVSHL

McLean (1-2-2) @ Oakton (2-5-0)

SkateQuest Reston, 6:10 PM puck drop

It’s a battle in the Adams division with two squads looking to stay alive in the playoff race. Oakton started the season 2-0, but have dropped five since. New year new sauce tho right boys? They’ll be lookin to turn it around.

Tuscarora/Westfield (4-4-0) @ Yorktown (3-2-1)

Kettler Capital Iceplex, 6:40 PM puck drop

Norris division throw down between the second and third place team as both of these squads are trying to stay in the hunt behind undefeated Chantilly. Yorktown does have two games in hand, so this would jump them into second. If their rowdy, and rumored savages of a student section show up, could be a serious advantage for Y TOWN.

Broad Run (6-0-0) @ Stone Bridge (3-2-0)

Ashburn Ice House – East, 7:30 PM puck drop

Undefeated Broad Run hits the road tonight for the original battle of the burn… idk what that means so someone plz explain. BUT, i’m gonna assume it’s a rivalry. Broad Run is looking to stay undefeated and to potentially sneak into the power rankings against a solid Stone Bridge team.

Riverside (3-1-1) @ Langley (4-1-1)

SkateQuest Reston, 7:55 PM puck drop

The defending champs are looking to stay on top of the Adams divsion vs a solid Riverside team that blah blah blah.. sorry, no puck talk right now. LOOK HOW HARD THOSE UNIS ARE. I’m a big fan of the Saxton’s jersey/shell/sock combo. One of my favorites in the area… which gives me an idea.. should we do a HS Jersey power rankings????

Chantilly (6-0-0) @ Flint Hill (2-3-1)

SkateQuest Reston, 9:40 PM puck drop

Another late one as the undefeated Chantilly squad is on the road against a Flint Hill squad looking to hit the .500 mark on the season. A win by Chantilly basically guarantees them the Norris regular season championship.. so congrats champs.
