Episode 36 now out and available on Apple Podcast, Spotify, and iHeart Radio Podcast. It’s a local puck episode so per usual we’re catching you up on last weeks scores, updating you on the standings and stat leaders, and previewing tomorrow nights games in the CSHL, MAPHL, NVSHL, and MSHL. We breakout this weeks power rankings for college and high school, and recap and preview what’s coming up with the junior teams.
Our interview is with Coach Flip from Bishop O’Connell. Re-accruing guest and friend of the pod, and we were able to catch up with him at Purple Puck after his team was coming off a game one win over host Gonzaga. We talk about the game and tournament, then break down how the first half of the Knights season went. We finish up with Flip’s thoughts on his team and what they need to do to finish the season strong and make a deep playoff run.
Team’s of the Week
Coach – Georgetown Prep
I’m ridin’ with the Hoyas this week after a sweep in MAPHL play last week. Wednesday, they hosted #6 DeMatha and skated away with a commanding 6-3 victory thanks to 2 goals each by Peter Roche and Seamus McNally. Friday would be no different as they traveled to take on St Albans and would get a 4-1 win for a 2-0 week to improve to 6-1-0 in MAPHL league play.
AB – Landon
AB is keeping it in the MAPHL here as he’s all in on the Landon Bears after a very impressive week. Much like Prep above, Landon had an undefeated week, first up beating Spalding 9-2 behind a Will Lawrence hat-trick and three point nights from JH Lages, Oscar Smink, and Joey Graham. They ended the week with a dominant 7-2 win over Gonzaga behind Will Lawerance’s 2nd hat-trick of the week.
KP – St. Johns Virginia Tech
KP went with St Johns on the pod… but they didn’t play last week so his vote got overthrown. We’re going with the VT Hokies kicking off the new year with a weekend sweep. TBH, the main reason for the team of the week nomination is how sick the new black jerseys all, but two wins certainly helps back up this pick too. Friday night they hosted WVU and after a scoreless 1st period, Myles Walther got the Hokies on the board twice to jump put to a 2-0 lead and VT wouldn’t look back from there. Defense was key in this one s VT would only let up 18 SOG’s. Saturday they would face UNC and after being down 0-1 in the first, would score three straight with tucks by Camin, Hathaway, and Walther again (have a weekend bud) Five different Hokies would score in this one en route to a 5-2 win.
